Sullivan’s Chant

Sir Arthur Sullivan composed a psalm chant for St George’s Church in 1887. It featured in the new St George’s Chant Book, which was compiled and published by the chaplain, Rev. Earée, and a single copy of which was rediscovered in 2007.

This page provides a facsimile of Sullivan’s chant which has been obtained from the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, some images of the Chant Book, and an article explaining why Sullivan truly did not want to write the chant.

This article, published in the Sir Arthur Society Magazine in summer 2011, provides more information about the chant.
